Cincinnati’s Emery Theater has been brought back to life by The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati. Following a $50 million renovation, TCT has returned to the venue it inhabited from 1949 to 1969. The historic company, founded in 1920, is the oldest theater in the U.S. dedicated to young audiences, and it’s going to be even more beloved in its new, technologically sophisticated home.

I was at the opening performance of THE WIZARD OF OZ: YOUTH EDITION last Friday (here’s a link to my Talkin’ Broadway review: https://www.talkinbroadway.com/page/regional/cincy/cincy565.html). It’s a wonderful demonstration of all the marvelous technology that will be used to dazzle young audiences (and their parents). In fact, TCT is claiming that the Emery is “the most technologically advanced proscenium-style theater in the nation,” and that certainly appears to be true. Here are two more images (photos by Mikki Schaffner) that will give you a sense of the magic now possible.
